This website opens its space to you from Réunion Island... CRESOI conducts scientific activities relating to the history of the Indian Ocean. As a research centre with numerous partners in the Indian Ocean area, it aims to consolidate the network of history researchers. Our website is now an instrument at the service of these partnerships.

Centre for Research on the Societies of the Indian Ocean, founded in 2001, is a member of EA12 (Indian Ocean: Lands and Societies) research group and the Doctoral School of the University of Réunion. CRESOI is the History Centre of the University of Réunion. It conducts research in several fields (colonization/decolonization, history of slavery, political history, cultural history, history of bodily practices, heritage, tourism, industrial archaeology). Scientific activities are carried out through a partnership (associate researchers and students) with several universities in the countries of the South West Indian Ocean (Madagascar, Comoros, Mauritius) and active cooperation in the form of seminars, congresses, etc.
